The fifth annual North American Parking Rate survey from Colliers
International was conducted during June 2005, and covered a broad
selection of 58 metropolitan areas in North America (48 U.S. markets
and ten Canadian markets). It showed that monthly parking rates
increased 2.7% for reserved spaces and 3.7% for unreserved spaces, and
daily parking rates showed more significant gains of approximately 7
percent over the past 12 months (U.S. only). Monthly unreserved rates
registered a high of $798 in New York Midtown and a low of $20 in
Memphis, Tennessee. Nationally, the average unreserved parking rate
was $148.30 per month. Additionally, 20% of U.S. garages had a waiting
list, with an average wait time of 3.3 months. Furthermore, one-fifth
of U.S. garages offer supplementary services such as valet parking, car
washing/detailing and dry cleaning.
